Mid-Continent Contracting has finished the demolition of the culvert crossing Mason Creek. 19th Street SE will remain closed to through traffic until the new culvert and accompanying pavement can be installed.
Intercon, working for Alliant Energy, is currently installing the last of the new gas service lines between South Federal Avenue and South Hampshire Avenue. Once all service line installation is complete Alliant will abandon the old gas main and switch to the newly installed main. All of the gas line work is expected to be completed this week.
Michels Power, working for Alliant Energy, will return this week to continue the electrical work along 19th Street SE. Several overhead lines will be moved to accommodate the street widening. Electrical work is expected to last approximately two weeks.
Beginning this week West Union Trenching, working for Mediacom, will begin installing a main line in the south right-of-way of 19th Street SE between South Federal Avenue and South Carolina Avenue. Service pedestals will be installed along the main line and service lines will be bored underground to individual residences. Work will begin near South Federal Avenue and will progress east to South Carolina Avenue. Mediacom installation is expected to last two weeks.
City sanitation and recycling services will continue throughout the duration of the project. Residents are asked to place their garbage and recycling in the alley at the back of the property and for those who do not have alley access to place theirs at the nearest corner for pickup. If pick up is missed please call the Sanitation Department at (641) 421-3691.
