Shelter House #1 in East Park is safer today.|Shelter House #1 in East Park is safer today.
In a memo to Mayor Eric Bookmeyer, Administrator Brent Trout and Park Board Chairperson Monte Appelgate, the Performing Arts Pavilion Committee has withdrawn plans to build a music pavilion where historic Shelter House #1 sits in East Park.
“It was our understanding the area in East Park currently occupied by Shelter House #1 would be a satisfactory location for our site-specific design. Clearly, we were misinformed and that is not the case. We respectfully withdraw our proposal to pursue our project on that site.
We hope this information will put an end to the acrimony and misinformation that has fueled a community debate since we approached the Park Board on September 14. We will rethink and redesign our plan. Then, when we are ready, we’ll approach both the Park Board and City Council for approval of our new plan.”
