ROCKWELL — Lon E. Peterson, 83, of Rockwell, died Tuesday, October 27, 2026, at Mayo Clinic Hospital – Methodist Campus. A longtime truck driver and 1961 Rockwell High School graduate, Lon shared with his wife, Kendra, a love of travel, fishing and cheering on their grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Monday, November 2, 2026, from 10 to 11 a.m. at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 502 Second St. S. in Rockwell. The funeral service will follow at 11 a.m., with Pastor Jason Grunklee officiating. Burial will take place in Rockwell Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family of Lon Peterson.
Born February 11, 1943, Lon was the son of Elmer and Myrtle (Larson) Peterson. He grew up with older brothers Wesley, Merle and Roger and sisters Della, Deloris and Rowena before graduating from Rockwell High School.
Lon and his first wife, Lucille Vosburgh, had three children, Dena, Gary and Sandy. Although their marriage ended, they maintained an amicable relationship over the years.
He later met Kendra Kreider, whom he married on July 18, 1971. Their daughter, Jessica, was born in 1973. Lon and Kendra built a life filled with shared experiences, from annual fishing trips to evenings spent close to home.
After Lon retired from truck driving in 2008, the couple had more opportunities to travel. Their trips included Costa Rica and Alaska, with Hawaii becoming a favorite destination. At home, their grandchildren’s games and events brought them to the sidelines together, ready to cheer.
Saturday evenings often found them at the Rockwell American Legion. There, the pair were known by a nickname that joined their names: “Londra.”
Lon’s surviving family includes daughters Dena Peterson of Sheffield and Jessica (Jeff) Tierney of Mason City; grandsons Ryan (Katie) Gossweiler of Madrid, Xander Tierney of Mason City and Drew Tierney of Mason City; granddaughter Lindsay Tank; great-granddaughters Abby Tank and Rylee Tank; great-grandsons Bentley Gossweiler and Colt Gossweiler; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Kendra; his son, Gary; brothers Wesley, Merle and Roger; and sisters Della, Deloris and Rowena.
