GREENE — Dian (Konrad) Hoelscher, 84, of Greene, died peacefully October 27, 2026, following a lengthy illness. In her final days, she enjoyed visits with family and friends at her daughter Christine’s home in Van Meter, surrounded by people whose lives she had helped shape through faith, encouragement and love.
Visitation will be held Saturday, October 31, 2026, from 10 a.m. to noon at Calvary Baptist Church, 312 S. Main St. in Greene. The funeral service will follow at noon, with Pastor Ben Hartwig officiating.
A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. that afternoon at Deer Creek Lutheran Church Cemetery, 4598 Zinnia Ave., near Carpenter, where Dian will be buried beside her husband, Rodger. No luncheon is planned. Memorial gifts may be directed to the family for future designation.
Dian was born January 16, 1942, in Carpenter to Raymond and Jean Konrad. After graduating from Carpenter High School, she studied art and home economics at the State College of Iowa, now the University of Northern Iowa.
Her Christian faith became central to her life during the summer of 1954. Dian regarded her decision to trust in Jesus Christ as the most important choice she ever made. Studying Scripture and helping others understand it remained lifelong commitments.
On April 20, 1963, she married Rodger Hoelscher at Cedar Heights Baptist Church in Cedar Falls. They raised three children, Timothy, Christine and Allison, and celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2023.
The family moved to Greene in 1980. Rodger taught social studies and coached, while Dian cared for their home and children. She also spent many years working as a florist at a Charles City greenhouse.
Within her church community, Dian found numerous ways to serve. She played piano, taught Sunday school, led PAWS club activities and hosted women’s Bible studies. She also offered individual guidance and encouragement to relatives and friends, maintaining those connections across the miles. Her church family remained dear to her, and she spoke warmly of them during her later years.
Train trips to the Pacific Northwest combined several of Dian’s favorite things: travel, family visits and time near the Oregon coast. She enjoyed seeing her son Tim and his family, as well as her sister and brothers.
Whether visiting relatives in Washington and Wisconsin or spending time with family closer to home in Iowa, Dian treasured being together. Visits from grandchildren and great-grandchildren could lift her spirits even during the difficult days of her illness.
She is survived by her son, Tim (Peggy) Hoelscher of Royal City, Washington, and their daughters, Katie (Aaron) Gardner and Emily Hoelscher. Katie and Aaron’s children are Isabella and Isaac.
Also surviving are her daughter, Christine (Dan) Phillips of Van Meter, and their children, Joshua (Lindsay) Phillips, Meg (Mark) Gowen and Carder (Sierra) Phillips. Joshua and Lindsay’s son is Elijah.
Her daughter, Allie Vicker of Des Moines, survives with her children, Harrison (Elise) Vicker and Marissa (Taylor) Gomez.
Dian also leaves her sisters, Carol and Lois; brothers, Joel and Mark; and many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rodger; her parents; and a grandson, listed in the obituary as Eljah Phillips.
