SIOUX RAPIDS — Kaylee “Scrappy” Nachtigal, 21, of Sioux Rapids, died unexpectedly Monday, October 26, 2026. A Spencer High School graduate studying public relations at Buena Vista University, Kaylee balanced a determined competitive spirit with a caring nature that found expression in friendships, youth ministry and her decision to become an organ donor.
Visitation will be held Sunday, November 8, 2026, from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at Geelan Funeral Home, 403 11th St. SE in Spencer. A memorial service will follow at 3 p.m., with the Rev. Tylor Sarchet of First Baptist Church officiating. Burial will take place at a later date at Logan Township Cemetery near Dickens.
Born June 13, 2005, in Spencer, Kaylee Marie-Rose Nachtigal grew into a young woman whose interests connected her with teammates, classmates, church members and coworkers. After graduating from Spencer High School, she continued her education at Buena Vista University, pursuing a major in public relations.
On the wrestling mat, Kaylee earned the nickname “Scrappy” through her toughness and determination. She recorded 100 pins during her wrestling career, an accomplishment reflecting the effort she devoted to a sport that meant so much to her.
Her college life included music and performance as well as academics. She played the flute in the BVU band and participated in flag guard, finding additional ways to contribute to campus activities.
At First Baptist Church in Spencer, Kaylee served as a youth ministry assistant, helping younger people grow in their faith. Her family described a young woman who smiled readily and wanted to help others. Her work at TJ Maxx also gave her opportunities to stay busy and connect with people.
Some of her favorite moments were simpler ones: shopping with her grandmother and spending time with friends. Those everyday experiences were an important part of the relationships she treasured.
Kaylee’s choice to become an organ donor reflected that same concern for others. Her family shared that the gift offered an opportunity to help people beyond her own circle and carry forward her caring spirit.
She is survived by her parents, Brandi and Nick Tomason of Sioux Rapids; grandparents, Dana and Sue Tomason of Dickens; brothers, Braxton Nachtigal, Aiden Tomason and Zander Tomason; and boyfriend, Cole Cantrall. She also leaves extended family, friends, classmates and members of the wrestling community who shared in her life.
She was preceded in death by her great-grandfather, Jim Tomason, and great-grandmother, Mary Blum.
Her family’s tribute closes with a simple expression of enduring love: “I love you and I miss you always and forever.”
Arrangements are under the care of Geelan Funeral Home, where family and friends may visit Kaylee’s obituary and share memories.
