GILLETT GROVE — Cameron Keith Dean, 65, of Gillett Grove, died peacefully October 26, 2026, surrounded by family and friends. From farm work and carpentry to handmade gifts, Cameron found many ways to put his practical skills and creativity to use throughout his life.
A celebration of life will be held Tuesday, November 3, 2026, from 5 to 7 p.m. at 426 Railway Street in Gillett Grove. Geelan Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
Cameron was born March 9, 1961, in Spencer, the son of Stanley and Jane (Grotzky) Dean. He attended schools in Arnolds Park and Spencer and remained connected to Spencer and nearby communities through much of his life.
His working years included farming, mechanical work, forklift operation, handyman jobs and carpentry. Those varied roles suited someone who liked to stay busy, work with his hands and understand how things fit together.
That curiosity was evident early. As a teenager, Cameron made dollhouse furniture and brass fixtures for his aunt. Years later, he crafted a pair of large gold hoop earrings for his great-niece. The projects were different in scale and purpose, but both reflected his ability to turn an idea into something personal for a family member.
Away from his projects, Cameron enjoyed fishing and collecting antiques. Unusual finds caught his attention, and he took pleasure in discovering things with character and history.
Christmas gatherings were particularly meaningful to him. He enjoyed being with his children, nieces and nephews, and looked forward to the opportunity to bring family together. Time spent visiting with relatives and friends remained an important part of his life.
Cameron is survived by his son, Franklin Dean; daughter, Amelia Dean and Luke Weatherby; brothers, Terry (Napha) Dean and Dan (Elaine) Dean; and sister, Sally (Jack) Metcalfe.
He also leaves his girlfriend, Jo Rettinghaus; friends, Shannon Rettinghaus and Keith Engkling; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
