MASON CITY — Sheldon “Shelly” Theodore Bohn, 88, a longtime Mason City business owner whose life included more than 50 years at Bohn Appliance, afternoons on the golf course and a perfect bowling game that earned national radio recognition, died peacefully Wednesday, October 21, 2026, at the Iowa Odd Fellows Home in Mason City.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, October 29, 2026, at Fullerton Funeral Home, 123 Second Street SE in Mason City. Shelly will be inurned in the columbarium at Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery in Mason City.

For generations of local customers, Shelly and his wife, Lorraine, were the people behind Bohn Appliance. They owned and operated the business for more than five decades, developing relationships that extended across generations of families. The sign still hanging above the store’s north-end front door remains a visible reminder of those years.

Shelly was born March 27, 1938, in Chaska, Minnesota, to Theodore and Anna Bohn. One of three children, he graduated from Mason City High School in 1956.

On Valentine’s Day in 1970, he married Lorraine Fitzgerald (Riekena) at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Their years together included both family life and the shared work of running their appliance business.

Away from the store, Shelly found a second home at Highland Golf Course. He was an enthusiastic golfer who recorded several holes-in-one, but the game also gave him a regular reason to spend time with friends. He and a group of close golfing buddies bought a bus and took Tuesday trips to play different courses.

Before those golf outings became a familiar part of his life, Shelly made his mark at the bowling alley. He bowled a perfect 300 game, an accomplishment that earned a mention on Paul Harvey’s radio show.

Shelly also served in the National Guard, belonged to the Moose Lodge and volunteered at the Mason City Senior Center. His connections to the community reached beyond his business through service, friendships and the activities he enjoyed.

He is survived by his wife, Lorraine; three stepchildren, Pamela (Karim) Bandali of Lakeville, Minnesota, Kevin (Deb) Fitzgerald of Mason City and Mike (Diane) Fitzgerald of Mason City; sister, Judy Bohn; brother, James (Jeanette) Bohn; grandsons, Ryan and Casey; and great-grandson, Wesley.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Anna Bohn.

Memories and condolences may be shared through Shelly’s tribute page at Fullerton Family of Funeral Homes.
