MASON CITY — A deer in the roadway sent a car into a ditch and rolling Sunday night, leaving two Mason City residents needing hospital treatment.
The Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched at approximately 9:37 p.m. October 11, 2026, to a single-vehicle crash near 280th Street and Thrush Avenue.
According to the sheriff’s office, Courtney Ann Latham, 18, of Mason City, was driving a black 2013 Chevrolet Malibu south on Thrush Avenue when a deer entered the roadway. Latham swerved to avoid it, lost control and entered the ditch, where the car rolled.
Latham and her passenger, Tyler John Sullivan, 23, also of Mason City, were taken by private vehicle to MercyOne in Mason City for medical treatment. Both had left the crash scene before a deputy arrived.
The sheriff’s office did not describe their injuries or provide an update on their conditions. Its release did not report any citations.
The rollover followed other recent injury crashes covered by NIT, including a separate motorcycle crash that seriously injured two Forest City residents and a semi crash into a car stopped behind a Northern Iowa school bus carrying 19 children.
The Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office is the investigating agency in the Thrush Avenue crash.
