ALLAMAKEE COUNTY — Two elderly Forest City residents were seriously injured Saturday morning, October 10, 2026, when their motorcycle went out of control on a northeast Iowa highway, crossed the centerline and entered a ditch, prompting a response that included an air ambulance.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 9:59 a.m. on Highway 51 near Lange Drive in Allamakee County.

A 71-year-old Forest City resident was driving a 2001 Honda motorcycle southbound when the driver lost control. The motorcycle slid across the centerline and entered the northbound ditch.

Both the driver and a 75-year-old passenger, also of Forest City, were seriously injured, the patrol reported. Their names have not been released.

One victim airlifted to Wisconsin hospital

Emplify Health Air transported the 75-year-old victim to Gundersen in La Crosse, Wisconsin. The patrol’s initial report does not identify where the 71-year-old driver was treated, and updated conditions were not immediately available.

The patrol listed only the motorcycle in its crash report. Authorities have not released further information about what caused the driver to lose control.

Multiple agencies respond to Highway 51 crash

Responders included the Iowa State Patrol, Allamakee County authorities, Waukon and Postville police, Postville EMS and Ambulance, Postville Fire Department and Emplify Health Air. Hennessy Towing removed the motorcycle. Trooper Smock of Iowa State Patrol District 10 investigated.

The crash is separate from another recent northern Iowa highway collision covered by NorthIowaToday.com, in which a semi struck a car stopped behind a school bus carrying 19 children. NIT also reported earlier this week on a four-vehicle crash on Highway 18 in Charles City that injured two people.

Further details on the Forest City residents’ conditions were not available in the initial patrol report.
