MASON CITY — Kevin James Dusold, 60, of Mason City, died October 1, 2026, at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center, leaving family and friends with memories of his humor, helping hands and lifelong enthusiasm for cars.

In keeping with Kevin’s wishes, cremation will take place. No public services will be held at this time.

Born April 15, 1966, to James Dusold and Sally O’Harrow, Kevin graduated from Newman High School in 1985. He soon entered the automotive field, turning an interest in how things worked into a career.

His work took him to Schukei Motor Company, O’Reilly Auto Parts and Lake Chevrolet. Engines and repairs suited his curious, practical nature. When something broke, Kevin was often ready to examine it, work through the problem and see what he could get running again.

That interest followed him home, where his dune buggy and Nova gave him more opportunities to spend time doing what he loved. Taking something apart and putting it back together was part of the enjoyment.

Kevin married Rachel Klang on May 23, 1998. They became parents to Sarah and Kyle, and a granddaughter is on the way.

Away from the garage, Kevin enjoyed league bowling and oldies rock music. He followed NASCAR and cheered for the Minnesota Vikings and Iowa Hawkeyes.

His family’s remembrance shared through Colonial Chapels also describes a man who liked to make people laugh. Kevin brought a joking spirit to conversations and paired his mechanical knowledge with a willingness to help others.

Kevin is survived by his wife, Rachel; daughter, Sarah Dusold and her fiancé, Dallas Testroet; son, Kyle Dusold and his partner, Jesi Karels; his expected granddaughter; mother, Sally Becker; sisters, Laura Dusold and her fiancé, Nick Smith, Korin Dusold and Terra Dusold; a sister-in-law; a brother-in-law; his parents-in-law; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Dusold; stepfather, Dale Becker; and uncle, Fred O’Harrow.
