WEST UNION — A teenage driver allegedly failed to stop and yield at a Northern Iowa intersection Sunday afternoon, triggering a two-vehicle crash that left both motorists facing citations.
The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call about the collision at approximately 4:30 p.m. September 27, 2026, at the intersection of 240th Street and Juniper Road near West Union.
Deputies said Kaylee Colleen Kline, 19, of Elkader, was driving a 2018 Ford Expedition when she failed to stop and yield the right of way. Her SUV collided with a 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix driven by Paul Philip Wier, 61, of Stoddard, Wisconsin.
Kline was cited for failure to obey a stop sign and yield the right of way.
Wier was cited for failure to provide proof of financial liability in connection with an accident. The sheriff’s announcement did not establish whether he lacked insurance or was unable to provide proof of coverage.
Authorities did not release information about injuries, medical treatment or estimated vehicle damage.
The West Union Fire Department, Emplify Ambulance and Iowa Big Rig Service and Repair assisted the sheriff’s office at the scene.
NIT has covered other Fayette County intersection collisions, including a July crash near Oran that seriously injured two drivers. In a separate August incident near West Union, a teenage driver was seriously injured when a pickup struck a livestock trailer on a dusty rural road.
Sunday’s crash remains under investigation. Citations are allegations, and both drivers are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
