LECLAIRE — A 32-year-old Iowa woman was killed and three children and an 18-year-old woman were critically injured when two vehicles collided with a semitrailer Tuesday evening in LeClaire.
The Scott Emergency Communications Center received a 911 call at approximately 6:26 p.m. September 22 reporting the crash near South Cody Road and West Canal Shore Drive.
According to the Scott County Sheriff’s Office, a white 2025 Volvo tractor-trailer was traveling south toward Riverdale while a white 1993 Honda Civic and a black 2016 Ford Escape were traveling north.
Investigators said the semi and Honda collided for reasons that remain unknown. The Honda briefly went beneath the semi’s trailer. The Ford then collided with the semi and came to rest against the east guardrail.
The roadway is a paved, four-lane highway connecting LeClaire and Riverdale.
Three children among those critically injured
The Ford’s driver, a 32-year-old LeClaire woman, was pronounced dead at the scene. Three children riding in the Ford were transported by Medic ambulances and ultimately taken to University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City in critical condition.
The Honda’s driver, an 18-year-old LeClaire woman who was alone in her vehicle, was flown by AirCare to University of Iowa Hospitals. Authorities also listed her condition as critical.
The semi’s driver, a 44-year-old man from Davenport, Florida, was alone in the truck. He was uninjured and declined medical treatment at the scene.
Authorities withheld the names of those involved pending notification of relatives. The release did not identify the children’s ages or their relationship to the Ford’s driver.
Investigators working to determine what happened
The Scott County Sheriff’s Office Accident Investigation Team responded to assist and is leading the investigation. Authorities have not determined why the initial collision occurred or assigned fault in the release.
Assisting agencies included Scott County Medic EMS, Iowa State Patrol, LeClaire police and firefighters, Bettendorf police and firefighters, Princeton police, Highway Helper, AirCare, Medforce and the Scott Emergency Communications Center.

The Iowa Department of Transportation’s September 21 report listed 209 traffic deaths statewide in 2026, compared with 200 at the same point last year. That report predates the LeClaire crash, and the preliminary totals can change as reports are received.
