BOONE COUNTY — An Iowa man was killed and a woman was flown to a Des Moines hospital after a Jeep collided head-on with a semi Monday afternoon in Boone County.
The crash happened at 2:02 p.m. on June 15, 2026, in the 2100 block of 190th Street, according to the Iowa State Patrol.
Investigators said a 2022 Jeep Compass driven by Bailey Jo Craven, 34, of Des Moines, was westbound on 190th Street. A 2020 Kenworth semi driven by Wyatt Robert Corbin, 26, of Boone, was eastbound on 190th Street.
According to the patrol, the Jeep entered the oncoming lane and was in the path of the semi. The Jeep then struck the semi head-on.
After impact, the Jeep came to rest in the south ditch on its driver’s side. The semi came to rest jackknifed in the roadway, blocking both lanes.
A passenger in the Jeep, Tristan Kyle Nelson, 37, of Ames, was pronounced dead at the scene by the medical examiner. The patrol report said Nelson was wearing a seatbelt.
Craven was injured and taken by air ambulance to Methodist Hospital in Des Moines. The patrol report said Craven was also wearing a seatbelt and credited the seatbelt with saving her life.
Corbin, the semi driver, was listed in the report as the driver of the second vehicle. The report did not list an injury for Corbin.
The semi was associated with M&W Ag Supply LLC of Jefferson, according to motor carrier information in the patrol report. The report said no hazardous materials were involved.
Both vehicles were towed by CIT Towing.
The crash remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol. Trooper Brent Rykhoek was listed as the investigating officer. The patrol was assisted by the Boone County Sheriff’s Office and other responders.
