GUTHRIE COUNTY — A 22-year-old Bayard man died Friday afternoon when his Jeep collided with a semi at a rural intersection, according to the Iowa State Patrol.
The crash happened at 12:16 p.m. September 18 at Justice Road and 130th Street in Guthrie County.
Brendan Bork was driving a 2017 Jeep Wrangler Sport west on 130th Street when he failed to yield at a stop sign, the patrol reported. A northbound 2006 International semi driven by Jimmy Hansen, 65, of Coin, struck the Jeep broadside on Justice Road.
Both vehicles came to rest in the west ditch north of the intersection.
Bork, who was wearing a seat belt and was the Jeep’s only occupant, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Panora EMS transported Hansen to a hospital in Guthrie Center for suspected minor injuries. The patrol listed Vetter Equipment Co. of Clarinda as the semi’s carrier.
The collision adds to a toll of fatal crashes on Iowa roads that includes the recent death of a Lone Rock man in a fiery semi crash near Britt.
The Iowa Department of Transportation’s September 18 preliminary report listed 206 traffic deaths statewide in 2026, compared with 199 at the same point last year. Reporting delays mean that count may not yet include Friday’s Guthrie County crash.
