WORTH COUNTY – Four people were injured Thursday afternoon when their vehicle collided with a pickup truck and rolled several times in a construction zone on Interstate 35 in Northern Iowa.

The crash happened at 4:52 p.m. on July 23, 2026, near mile marker 212 in Worth County.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, a 2010 Chevrolet Silverado and a 2026 Volkswagen Taos were traveling north on I-35 and entering a work zone. The Silverado began merging and slowing when the Volkswagen attempted to pass it.

The Volkswagen struck the rear driver’s-side bumper of the pickup, entered the median and rolled several times.

All four occupants of the Volkswagen were injured. They were identified in the report as a 37-year-old driver, a 33-year-old passenger, a 13-year-old and a 6-year-old, all from Kearney, Missouri. Their names were withheld by authorities.

The 13-year-old was airlifted to MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center in Mason City. The other three occupants were transported to the hospital by Northwood EMS and Forest City EMS.

All four were wearing seat belts, according to the crash report. The State Patrol specifically credited seat-belt use with saving the lives of the 37-year-old, 33-year-old and 6-year-old occupants.

The Silverado was driven by a 31-year-old Wells, Minnesota, resident whose name was also withheld. No one in the pickup was injured.

The Volkswagen was removed by Dick’s Place Body and Tow.

The Iowa State Patrol investigated the crash with assistance from the Worth County Sheriff’s Office and area emergency responders.
