MASON CITY — Fourteen projects serving Cerro Gordo County will share more than $143,000 in grants awarded through the Cerro Gordo County Community Foundation’s 2026 funding cycle.
The foundation announced the distribution of $143,644.80 during a grant awards celebration held July 14, 2026, at the Mason City Schools FEMA Room.
The grants will support public safety, food assistance, emergency services, education, youth programs, community facilities and other local needs.
Health and safety projects received the largest share of funding.
The City of Swaledale Fire Department received $10,000 for a fire suppression unit.
The Food Bank of Iowa was awarded $10,000 for its Feeding Cerro Gordo Children project.
Friends of the Family received $10,000 for its Barrier Removal Fund.
Habitat for Humanity of North Central Iowa was awarded $7,462 for tools to support its community building work.
The North Iowa Detachment No. 859 Marine Corps League received $13,935.66 to replace a cargo van used for Toys for Tots.
The Rockwell-Swaledale Emergency Medical Team was awarded $7,099.99 for an AutoVent ventilator.
The Community Kitchen of North Iowa received $5,200 for a commercial refrigerator.
The Thornton Volunteer Fire Association was awarded $7,697.15 for reflective striping on a truck and new air pack masks.
Under the Opportunity and Access category, Mason City Community Schools received $10,000 for workforce readiness programs serving high school career pathway students.
Several youth-focused projects also received funding.
The Girl Scouts of Greater Iowa was awarded $7,500 for waterfront paddling equipment at Camp Tanglefoot.
The Mason City Family YMCA received $15,000 for a gym upgrade.
The Mason City Instrumental Music Boosters Foundation was awarded $12,000 to purchase tubas for middle school students.
Two projects were funded under the Vibrant Community category.
The City of Thornton received $12,750 for a generator project.
The West Fork Community School District Booster Club was awarded $15,000 toward an all-weather track.
Grant recommendations were made by the Cerro Gordo County Community Foundation’s governing committee.
The 2026 committee includes Molly Anderegg, Nicklos Andersen, Lori Brandt, Bridgette Exman Dunn, Teresa Goyette, Dennis Lee and Terry Schumaker.
The Clear Lake/Ventura Area Community Impact Fund was among the donor-established funds supporting the discretionary grant process.
The Cerro Gordo County Community Foundation is an affiliate of the Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa, which provides administrative, investment and technical support.
The foundation’s 2027 grant cycle will open March 1, 2027. Applications will be due April 15, 2027.
