OSAGE — A Northern Iowa crash near Osage sent two drivers to the hospital Sunday afternoon, including a Grafton man with life-threatening injuries, according to the Iowa State Patrol.

The crash happened at 4:05 PM on June 29, 2026, on Highway 9 at River Road in Osage.

According to the State Patrol, a 2008 Pontiac Solstice driven by Jay Schaub, 66, of Grafton, was westbound on Highway 9. A 2015 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Hakkon Rosendahl, 37, of Osage, was also westbound in front of Schaub.

The State Patrol says Schaub’s Pontiac collided with the rear of Rosendahl’s Silverado. The Pontiac then collided head-on with an eastbound 2019 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Jason Elgin, 43, of Rudd.

Schaub was transported by EMS to Mitchell County Regional Health Center with life-threatening injuries.

Elgin was also transported by EMS to Mitchell County Regional Health Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash report says both Schaub and Elgin were wearing seat belts, and the State Patrol listed seat belts as life-saving in both cases.

All three vehicles were towed by Osage Towing.

The crash remains under investigation.

Trooper Sanchez of Iowa State Patrol Post 8 investigated the crash. The State Patrol was assisted by other ISP personnel, the Mitchell County Sheriff’s Office, Mitchell County EMS and Osage Towing and Repair.
