MASON CITY — Brian Dean Bushbaum, 70, of Mason City, passed away at his home on Monday, June 29, 2026.
Brian was born June 19, 1956, the son of Marvin and Janice Richard Bushbaum.
According to his obituary, Brian devoted his working life to nursing and caring for others. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from the University of Iowa and became known as a compassionate and capable nurse.
Those who worked with Brian remembered him as a dedicated health care professional who brought skill, patience and kindness to the people placed in his care.
Family was also an important part of Brian’s life. His obituary reflects the pride he took in his children and grandchildren and the affection he shared with relatives, friends and his beloved dog, Wyatt.
Brian is survived by his children, Jonathon Bushbaum and his wife, Tara, Jacob Bushbaum and his wife, Brooke, Sarah Bushbaum, and Jason Christianson and his wife, Kari.
He is also survived by his grandchildren, Mikayla and Liam Reinken, Jackson and Flora Bushbaum, Alek, Azek, Erik and Izak Christianson, and Ashley Mattson; brothers Kenny Bushbaum and his wife, Kathy, and Randy Bushbaum and his wife, Amber; sister-in-law Sandy Bushbaum; his dog, Wyatt; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Brian was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Janice Bushbaum, and his brothers, Dallas Bushbaum and Richard Lee.
In keeping with Brian’s wishes, cremation has taken place.
The family will hold a private graveside service at a later date.
