April 22, 1946 – April 16, 2026

Donald Allen Sorensen, 79, of Mason City, Iowa, passed away April 16, 2026, at Good Shepherd Health Center in Mason City.

A memorial service will be held 2:00pm Friday, April 24, 2026 at Riverside Friends Church in Mason City. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church. He will be laid to rest at Memorial Park Cemetery in Mason City.

Donald was born on April 22, 1946, in Mason City, the son of Thorvald and Beverly (Bohl) Sorensen. He graduated from Mason City High School before serving his country in the United States Army. During his time in the military, he worked as a combat medic, an experience that left a lasting impression on his life. Following his honorable discharge, Donald served as a city marshal in Kansas. He later spent many years working with Wyborny Trucking and United Rental. In addition, he owned and operated his own lawn mower service business, D & T Repair.

Donald was known for his strong-willed nature and his sense of humor. He often joked that it was “his way or the highway,” but he also delighted in sharing goofy jokes with his children and grandchildren. One of his favorite running jokes involved a “pretend dog”—though he never actually had one, he would often mention tripping over it or needing to end a call to take it for a walk. Above all, Donald cherished time spent with his family. He had a love for horses and rodeo, both as a spectator and participant. He was also passionate about motorcycles, enjoying both working on them and riding. In his free time, he found enjoyment in hunting, especially deer and pheasant.

Those left to honor his memory are his children; Conni (Brandon Powell) Sorensen and Anthony (Pam Haugen) Sorensen; grandsons, Noah and Kaylub Sorensen; siblings, Steve (LaVonne) Sorensen and Kathy (Jerry) Sonsalla; as well as nieces, nephews, friends and extended family.

Preceding him in death are his parents; grandson, Bryce Sorensen; and brother, Chris Sorensen.
