MASON CITY — An Iowa girl has been missing for over two weeks, and Mason City police are asking for the public’s help to locate the “at-risk” teenager who may be using a false identity.

Mason City Chief of Police Mike McKelvey

According to a press release from Mason City Police Chief Mike McKelvey, 16-year-old Hudsen Marie Johnson was reported missing from a local youth shelter at 3:41 p.m. on April 1, 2026. While Johnson is not originally from Mason City, she is believed to have contacts in the area.

Police describe Johnson as a 16-year-old white female, 5’8″ tall, weighing approximately 150 lbs, with blue eyes and shoulder-length hair currently dyed black with a purple hue. She was last seen wearing:

  • A black hoodie sweatshirt

  • Ripped, light-colored or faded blue jeans

  • White Nike tennis shoes

Investigators noted that Johnson is considered “street-wise” but is at high risk of being victimized. She has reportedly been using the alias “Yuri” and falsely claiming to be from Korea. While police know she has been in the Mason City area recently, they have received conflicting reports that she may now be in other Iowa cities or in Minnesota.

A recent photo of Johnson is available through the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Anyone with information regarding her whereabouts is urged to contact their local law enforcement agency or submit a tip through the Missing Kids website.

UPDATE: This same day, police chief Mike McKelvey reported that, “a few minutes ago, Ms. Johnson was located safe in MN. Arrangements are being made to transport her back to Iowa.”
