SUMMARY:
The Winnebago County Board of Supervisors met on April 14, 2026, and officially adopted the FY 2027 County Budget following a public hearing with no objections. The approved budget includes property tax rates of $8.60092 per $1,000 valuation for city property and $13.41338 per $1,000 for rural property, resulting in a total tax asking of $9,328,718. Total expenditures for the upcoming fiscal year are set at $23,957,074, with the largest allocations dedicated to roads and transportation, public safety, and debt service. In addition to budget approval, the board authorized an auditor’s transfer of $1.4 million from the UR2A fund to the UR2 fund.Beyond financial planning, the board addressed several infrastructure and community safety matters. The supervisors authorized the $68,250 net purchase of a used 2022 Cat 908M Compact Wheel Loader for the Secondary Road Department and approved an engineer’s report for drainage repairs on 500th Street. Public safety discussions centered on paging issues reported by Buffalo Center EMS, leading the board to request a formal proposal for solutions within two weeks. Furthermore, a new safety committee consisting of representatives from every department was established to begin quarterly meetings on April 20.
