OBIT: Larry Reuben Peterson “Hoot”

Larry Reuben Peterson “Hoot”, age 83, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at West View Care Center in Britt, Iowa. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 2, 2025, at Corwith Cemetery.

Larry Reuben Peterson “Hoot”, age 83, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at West View Care Center in Britt, Iowa.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 2, 2025, at Corwith Cemetery. A Celebration of Life visitation will immediately follow the service at the American Legion in Corwith, continuing until 3:00 p.m.

Larry was born on December 13, 1941, in Goldfield, Iowa, the son of Reuben Cornelius Peterson and Anna Kannenberg. He lived in Eagle Grove until he was six, when they moved to the Corwith area in 1947, then to a farm south of Britt in 1963.

Larry received his education at Corwith – Wesley School and graduated in 1959. Later, he graduated from Chicago Technical College and National Meat Packers Training Inc. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church.

Larry married Jeraldine Kumsher on May 9, 1969. They lived in Britt before moving to Corwith. As he always held a steady job, he was always willing to help anyone on his time off. Important to him was family, hunting, fishing, music, his dogs, and getting together with friends to play cards.

He is survived by his wife, Jeri, of Corwith; daughter, Angela Hain and Nick Gordon of Osage, IA; sons, Scott Peterson of Corwith, IA, and Kelly Peterson of Albert Lea, MN. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Justin Hain of Lakewood, CO, Jordan (Abbey) Hain of Kensett, IA, Chance Gordan of Osage, IA, and Keira Peterson of Albert Lea, MN; one sister, Donna Newell, age 97, of Concord, CA; niece, Jodi, and husband, Joseph Villereal and son Matthew of CA; nephew, John Newell and husband David Banda, of CA.

David and Mary Oxley of MN; and many other nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Marlene; nephew, Jeff; and many more uncles, aunts, and cousins.
