With hearts full of love and gratitude for a life beautifully lived, we announce that our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister, Maxine Ellen Domek Thompson, was called home to her Heavenly Father on September 14, 2025, peacefully surrounded by the family she so deeply cherished, at Methodist Manor in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Born into God’s grace on April 9, 1940, on a farm east of Emmetsburg to Ed and Ellen (Christiansen) Domek, Maxine’s childhood alongside her dear sister Carol was filled with the simple joys of farm life that would shape her generous and nurturing spirit. At Cylinder Grade School and Emmetsburg High School, she discovered her lifelong passion for basketball, becoming a devoted Iowa Hawkeyes and Minnesota Vikings fan whose enthusiasm was contagious to all who watched games by her side.
Maxine’s unwavering Catholic faith was the cornerstone of her life. As a devoted member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Emmetsburg, she not only lived her faith but lovingly wove it into the fabric of her children’s lives, leaving them with a spiritual legacy that will endure for generations. Her prayers were a constant embrace around her family.
After pouring her heart into raising six beautiful children, Maxine found her calling as a caregiver at the Emmetsburg Care Center, where her compassionate touch and gentle spirit brought comfort to countless souls – a true testament to her servant’s heart.
But it was as a mother where Maxine’s light shone brightest. Her home was a haven of love, especially during holidays when laughter filled every corner and memories were wrapped in her warm embrace. She would travel any distance, cross any county line, brave any weather to be in the stands cheering for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Each child knew – through her special smile, her gentle touch, her encouraging words – that they were individually and completely treasured. Her love was a gift that each one carries in their heart forever.
The last six years at Lake Pointe Villa in Storm Lake were indeed her golden years – a blessing she embraced with joy. Daily card games brought laughter, shared lunches created bonds, and the friends she made there became the family of her heart. Even in these later years, her spirit remained vibrant, her smile radiant, and her love boundless.
Heaven has gained an angel, but her love remains eternally woven into the lives of those she leaves behind; her devoted children – Carrie (Tim) Brown, Mike (Carla) Thompson, Todd (Dorsey) Thompson, Lori (Tony) Wieseler, Troy (Nesha) Thompson, and Amy (Brian) Hart; her beloved sister, Carol (Marvin) Jacobson; her cherished grandchildren – Nick (Jami), Kevin (Tera), Mark, Bobby (Makayla), Carrissa, Zack, April (Jon), Mitch (Meghan), Hannah, Morgan, Ellie, Josh, Alec, Nate, Drew, Josie, Anabelle, Jeffrey, Mikey, Emmy, Matthew; 16 precious great grandchildren who were the sparkle in her eye, Addie, Lincoln, Harper, Blake, Ryan, Beau, Brody, Brooks, Lily, Ramone, Joey, Raewyn, Claire, Eden, Levi, and Hallie; and her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, George and Susan Thompson.
She now joins in eternal rest with her parents, Ed and Ellen Domek, and her precious granddaughter, Jessica Banuelos, whose absence she felt deeply every day.
Maxine’s legacy is not measured in years but in the countless lives she touched with her kindness, the faith she instilled, the love she multiplied, and the memories that will forever warm our hearts. She taught us that love isn’t just spoken – it’s shown in every sacrifice, every cheer from the stands, every prayer whispered, and every moment spent together.
Until we meet again, Mom, Grandma, Great-Grandma – your love remains our guiding light.
