MASON CITY – Judge Rustin Davenport, who has some kind of fetish for going easy on some of the worst predators in our community but is still perched up in the courthouse, set free a clearly very troubled woman after a number of serious crimes, including arson, criminal mischief, witness tampering, and more, but after yet another home invasion and destructive episode last week, the suspect had to be rounded up by police.
On September 2, 2025, at 6:37 PM, Mason City police officers were dispatched to 814 N. Federal Avenue for a disturbance. Residents advised that 46-year-old Shelby Kloberdanz was there and out of control. They alleged she refused to leave, was violating a no-contact order, and was now damaging property.
Officers arrived to hear more glass breaking from inside the apartment building. Officers found Kloberdanz inside the dwelling, screaming and crying. She allegedly had broken several windows while trying to contact the protected party there before officers arrived. Kloberdanz was arrested for violating the no-contact order, third-degree criminal mischief (windows were estimated at approximately $1,000 to repair), and criminal trespass.
NIT earlier reported that Judge Rustin Davenport had released Kloberdanz from jail on August 4 while she awaited sentencing or hearings in cases of first-degree arson, a number of no-contact order violations, criminal mischief, and witness tampering. After Kloberdanz (pictured at top) was arrested in the September 2 incident, records show that Davenport, on September 3, revoked her pre-sentence freedom, and she now remains in the Cerro Gordo county jail as she awaits a September 12 hearing, a September 15 sentencing, and a September 16 contempt hearing.
