OBIT: Elon John Dahley

Elon J. Dahley, 86, of Mason City, passed away on Saturday, August 23, at Good Shepherd Care Center. A private family graveside service will be held at Elmwood Cemetery on Thursday, September 4.

March 7, 1939 – August 23, 2025

Elon J. Dahley, 86, of Mason City, passed away on Saturday, August 23, at Good Shepherd Care Center.

A private family graveside service will be held at Elmwood Cemetery on Thursday, September 4. Following the service, family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life at Mulligan’s Bar & Grill in Mason City from 3:00–6:00 p.m.

Elon was born on March 7, 1939, to Erling and Janette (Forslund) Dahley and grew up on the family farm southwest of Osage, Iowa. He graduated from Osage High School in 1957. After leaving the farm, Elon joined his brothers, Wayne and Dick, working with Dick’s company, Midwest Cable, where he traveled across the United States building cable systems. After retiring from Midwest Cable, he continued to stay active, spending his summers mowing for the City of Mason City at the airport and Elmwood Cemetery.

On June 22, 1993, Elon was united in marriage to Judy (Peyton) Dahley. Together, they shared many happy years, especially enjoying camping trips with friends and family. Elon loved his time on the golf course and was always up for a good card game. He also enjoyed spending time with his extended family of children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who brought him abundant joy and love. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, the joy he found in simple pleasures, and time spent with family and friends.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 33 years, Judy; children Candi (Mike) Karsjens, Chris (Shelly) Cline, Cathi Solberg; grand-children Lynzy (Wade) Meyer, Whitney (Adam) Blaas, Lindsay Karsjens, Haley (Kraig Hemann) Karsjens, Carter (Sara) DeVary, Blake (Devlyn Nelson) DeVary, Brady (Karissa) Cline, Bria (Doug Slonczewski) Cline, Janay (Chance McClellon) Cline, Seth Cline, Destiny Smith, Stephan Cline, Devon Cline, Tyler Donahoo, Ashton Donahoo; great grandchildren Chandler, Chase, Wynsten, Oakley and Greyson; sister Corinne (Ron) Gambach; sisters-in-law Jeanne (Dick) Dahley, Carolyn (Mike) Evans, brothers-in-law Bob Frein, Rick Peyton, many beloved nieces & nephews; special family friends Dustin, Tracy, Kenzie & Keely Moorehead.

He was preceded in death by his parents; mother-in-law Elaine Lenz; brothers Wayne and Dick; sister Marlene Frein; and sister-in-law Sandy Peyton.
