Ida Cox, 86, of Boone, passed away Friday, August 22, 2025, at Westhaven Community in Boone.

Ida was born March 16, 1939, in Sigourney, Iowa, the daughter of Ross and Marguerite (Heiser) Hartling. She moved with her family to Minnesota and graduated from Brainerd High School in Brainerd.

Ida met the love of her life, Doyle Cox, in 1964, and after a short courtship, they were united in marriage on October 10, 1964, in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She gained a son, Chris Cox, with this marriage and to this union two children were born, Wanda and Wade. They made their home in Boone.

Ida raised her children and once they were grown, she started working outside the home. She was first employed at the Boone County Hospital and then with Westhaven Community. Ida enjoyed reading, especially newspapers and cookbooks. She was a very talented artist and drew many sketches and floral designs. Ida was known for her homemade bread and she loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 58 years, Doyle Cox in 2023; son, Wade Cox in 2002; brother, Charles Hartling; and sister, Lois Rosko.

Ida is survived by her daughter, Wanda Cox of Boone; step-son, Chris (Julie) Cox of Boone; two grandsons, Joshua (Jordanna) Stover of Boone and Spencer (Emily) Stover of Granger; three step-grandchildren, Lacey Cox of Boone, Tony (Kerri) Cox of Boone, and Bri (Nathan) Shafer of Ohio; four great-grandchildren, Jensen Stover, Georgia Stover, Elsie Stover and Sawyer Stover; five step-great-grandchildren, Quinn Cox, Cole Cox, Tate Shafer, Paisley Shafer and Teague Shafer; brother, Norman Hartling of Oregon; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A private family service will be held at a later date.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall Streets in Boone.
