ORANGE CITY, IOWA – This carnie wanted for reckless driving that involved the death of a child in Minnesota was working a festival in Northern Iowa when authorities learned of his whereabouts and closed in.

On May 17, at 12:58 PM, the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office arrested 52-year-old Kyle Backhaus of Amite, Lousisiana. The arrest stemmed from an a tip that Backhaus, who had a nationwide arrest warrant, multiple other arrest warrants, and had been evading law enforcement for four years, would likely be working the carnival rides at the Tulip Festival in Orange City, Iowa.

According to Kelo news, Backhaus (pictured at top) was wanted on a reckless driving charge in Minnesota from a 2021 accident that claimed the life of a young boy.

Sheriff’s deputies wearing plain clothes coordinated efforts to locate, identify and take Backhaus into custody. He was transported to the Sioux County Jail where he was held on the warrants.
