Douglas Schmidt, 66, of Nora Springs, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday May 14, 2025 at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Saturday May 17, 2025 at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd St NE, Mason City, Iowa.

Douglas was born on July 21, 1958, in Davenport, Iowa, the son of Douglas Sr. and Barbara (Young) Schmidt. In his younger years the family moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where his parents both worked for AT&T. They moved back to Mason City during his sophomore year. Douglas graduated from Mason City High School in 1977. He may have lived in Iowa for the remainder of his life but a big part of his heart was always in New Mexico, he often took his family back to visit many times over the years.

On June 12, 1982, Douglas married Lori Neuhring, from this loving union four boys were born. He supported his family by working at Curries Manufacturing for 45 years as a brake press operator and other welding jobs.

His greatest joy in life was his family. Douglas loved being a husband, father of four “asshole” sons, and grandfather of seven. He was an avid outdoorsmen, enjoyed fishing, hiking, camping and riding horses. He loved the mountains. Throughout his whole life he loved riding motorcycles and dirt bikes. He may have been Bruce Lee and Brandon Lee’s biggest fan even having a tattoo dedicated to each of them. He was a Sci-fi nut, watching numerous movies and television shows.

Those left to cherish memories of Douglas are his wife, Lori Schmidt; sons, Brandon (Ashley) Schmidt, Jeremy (Cambria) Schmidt, Steven Schmidt, and Austin (Bailey) Schmidt; grandchildren, Kaiden, Kinsley, Carter, Ryder, Emersyn, Jack and Kamden; sisters, Dianne Schmidt and Dawn Hansmeier; niece, Tara (Austin) Theisen and their children, Juliette, Sienna, Wesley Thiesen; nephew, Daniel Hansmeier; brother, Brad Schmidt; mother and father-in-law, Robert and Diane Neuhring; brothers-in-law, Brad (Joan) Neuhring, John Tolzman and his children, Stone and Blade Tolzman; as well as other extended relatives and friends.

Douglas is preceded in death by his parents, Barbara and Douglas Sr.; as well as his grandparents.
