Cheryl M. Goltz, 69, passed away peacefully Wednesday May 14, 2025 at the Clarion Wellness and Rehab center.
A celebration of her life will be held in the near future.
Cheryl Marie Goltz was born November 18, 1955 in Fort Dodge, IA the daughter of William “Bill” and Florence (Arnold-Davis) Goltz. She was adopted at a young age by aunt and uncle, Lee H. and Dorothy M. (Bluecher) Mumby. The family moved to Hawkeye, where Cheryl attended and graduated from Fayette Community Schools. She was blessed with two children: Chrissy Lee and Clement Joseph “CJ”. Living in Rockwell, Cheryl worked as a bus driver for over 18 years. Later she worked at Alexander Batteries, and most recently for the Post Office in Bradford, where she retired in 2024.
Cheryl was a woman who never sat still for long. While working full time, she also ran rural newspaper routes for the Globe Gazette—up early, out late, and always on the move. In between, she found joy in the things she loved most: crafting, tending to her large and productive garden, and spending time with her beloved horses. Her passion for horses led her back to school at Ellsworth Community College, where she studied Equine Management. With her children by her side, she traveled to 32 states, proudly showing horses through FFA, 4-H, fairs, and various other events. Cheryl’s garden overflowed with abundance, and she took great pride in preserving her harvest—often sharing jars of her famous beef stew with friends and family. A natural in the kitchen, she was known for her hearty, delicious cooking. But her heart belonged to her grandchildren, who brought her the greatest joy. Whether cheering from the bleachers or applauding from the audience, she never missed a chance to be part of their lives. Her family remembers her as a force—stubborn, honest (sometimes bluntly so), deeply caring, and endlessly generous. Cheryl gave her all to everything she did and everyone she loved.
She is survived by her children, Chrissy Lee Goltz and CJ (Jamie) Goltz of Galt, IA; grandchildren, Isaac, Trevor and Brendon; siblings, Jeri Booth Tanner, Mike Goltz, Kimme Pope and Carla Goltz, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
Preceding her in death are all of her parents, siblings, Janene Pinney, Jim Goltz and Daniel Mumby.
