Charles Alexander Springer was born March 7, 1956, to John and Mary Elisabeth “Betty” (Waldron) Springer, in Sioux Falls, SD. CA married Karen Sunde on June 19, 1982, at Pilot Knob State Park in Forest City. Together, they raised three children and enjoyed countless adventures in Iowa and beyond. He spent his life looking out for the underdog – he found his calling working in special education, first as a teacher and then as a consultant/work experience coordinator. His devotion to his students over his 35 years as an educator positively impacted many lives.

CA loved to swim, listen to music and NPR, travel around the country in his Sprinter van to see his grandkids, be outdoors, and cheer on his alma mater, Iowa State. He was especially fond of his dogs, Rodney Growell, Johnny Cash, and Nina Simone.

CA is survived by his wife, Karen, of Garner; children, Adam (Teresa) Springer of Newport, OR, Megan Evans of West Haven, CT, Sam (Karla) Springer of Windsor, CO and Sunshine Steger of Atlanta, GA; his grandchildren, Grace, Leland, Ellia, Everlyn, Nolan and Kiana; siblings, Stephanie (Mike) Holcomb, John (Julie) Springer, Jim (Christine) Springer, Chris (Jordan) Misner, Tracy (Marshall) Lehman, and Blair (Denise) Springer; as well as numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and friends.
