George Albertson, Jr. 90 of Hampton, formerly Garner and Northwood, passed away Saturday, April 5, 2025 at Franklin General Hospital in Hampton.
A private family graveside will be held in the spring at Sunset Rest Cemetery, Northwood, IA.
George Junior was born on August 31, 1934, in Forest City, the thirteenth of fifteen children born to George and Bertha (Hanna) Albertson. After the passing of his mother, George moved to Ohio at the age of ten to live with extended family. He later returned to Scarville, IA where he stayed with family until graduating from high school. Following graduation, he began his service in the United States Army in 1955, as an expert tank gunner until his honorable discharge in 1958. Not long after, he married Barbara Munson, and together they had three children: Rick, Randy, and Julie. George remained a steady presence in the area, working at various factories over the years. He eventually retired from Stellar Industries in Garner.
George was strong-willed and had a good sense of humor—often catching people off guard with his dry wit and quick remarks. He loved spending time outdoors, especially when he had a fishing pole in hand and nowhere else to be. He rarely missed a game, whether it was cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes or the Minnesota Vikings, and he enjoyed the occasional trip to the casino just for fun. He lived life in his own way, with a quiet independence that stayed with him throughout the years.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Rick Albertson, Randy Albertson, and Julie Hove; a special nephew, Roger Ellefson; a sister, Tharon Steinmetz; as well as many extended family members and cherished friends.
Preceding him in death are his parents, thirteen siblings, and extended relatives.
