Marilynn Reis, 88, of Osage, passed away on Friday, February 7, 2025, at home surrounded by her loving family.
A Funeral Mass for Marilynn Reis will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage with Father Raymond Burkle officiating. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Osage.
Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the start of the Funeral Mass on Tuesday.
Marilynn Rose (Flowers) Reis, the daughter of Abner and Rosetta (Bennett) Flowers, was born November 26, 1936, in Osage. She attended and graduated from Osage High School in 1954. On November 21, 1959, Marilynn married Marvin Reis at the St. Ansgar Catholic Church.
Marilynn worked at Sugar Creek drive-in, then was a telephone operator in Charles City for 5 years until they changed to the dial system, then transferred to the Osage telephone office until starting a family. She helped on the family farm while raising their four children. After the children were grown, Marilynn started working as a nurse’s aide at Faith Lutheran Home and was soon offered the position as Social Service Designee until her retirement at the age of 70. Marilynn was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Guild as well as a long-time member of St. Catherine’s Circle. She was also a member of Mitchell U&I Club. She served on Band Mothers and Athletics Mothers board at Osage, Brownie Scout Leader, and CCD teacher at both St. Ansgar and Sacred Heart Catholic Churches.
Marilynn enjoyed ceramic classes, knitting, reading, puzzle games, Yahtzee, and bowling league. She also enjoyed their many trips to Branson and spending winters in the Laughlin, Nevada area (where she met and visited with Joe Bonsall of the Oak Ridge Boys on an elevator ride). Trips to South Dakota Wounded Knee and to St. Mary’s Red Lake Missions, 36 trips to both in total, were very important to her with Marvin.
Marilynn is survived by her children: Julie (Michael) Duncomb of Anamosa, Brian (Diana) Reis of Osage, Diane (Daniel) Sullivan of Osage, and Denise (Brent) Michaelsen of Osage; grandchildren: Brandon (Erin) Duncomb, Darrin (Whitney) Duncomb, Kelly (Joe) Koenigs, Danelle Reis, Ellen (TJ) Berger, Brad (Kerry Allison) Sullivan, Derek (Samantha) Sullivan, Melanie (Matt) Oakland, Josh Reis, Dillon (Megan) Summer and Katie (Nate) Nicholson; great-grandchildren, Logan & Annalie Duncomb, Russell & Beckett Duncomb, Raina, Genevieve, Sylvia, & Lewis Koenigs, Rockwell & Ronni Berger, Ayden, Ava, & Harper Sullivan, Brendan Allison, Kallan, Kylie, & Cade Sullivan, Leo & Gabe Oakland, Damian Clayton, Owen & Thea Summer, and Tucker, Ruby, & Georgia Nicholson; sister-in-law, Sagda Flowers of Omaha, Nebraska; and many nieces and nephews that meant a lot to her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Marvin Reis; brothers and sisters: Marie (Bill) Fenton, Margaret Smith, Marian (Arnold) Johnson, Robert (Adeline) Flowers, Roger Flowers, Richard Flowers; and granddaughter, Michelle Sullivan.
