MORGANTOWN, WEST VIRGINIA – Iowa State (13-7, 4-3 Big 12) fell to No. 20 West Virginia (15-3, 5-2 Big 12) in Morgantown by a score of 82-68 Sunday afternoon.
ISU, without Emily Ryan, could not recover after committing 25 turnovers resulting in 26 West Virginia points. The Mountaineers rank third in the nation in forced turnovers.
Addy Brown led the Cyclones scoring 19 on 6-of-8 shooting from the field while making six free throws. Brown also had seven rebounds, seven assists and a steal.
West Virginia had three early 3-pointers, but Iowa State kept within one of the Mountaineers at 13-12 at the first media timeout led by six points by Brown. Out of the timeout, WVU hit an 11-0 run as ISU committed costly turnovers. At the end of one, the home team led 30-15.
Iowa State would call an early timeout two minutes into the second frame but WVU continued to control the game after the break. After Iowa State’s 10th turnover, West Virginia then stretched its advantage over 20 (40-19) with 6:08 left in the half.
WVU found its largest lead of the game at 26 after the Mountaineers’ eighth shot from deep to make the scoreboard read 57-31. Heading into the fourth quarter, West Virginia led it 69-49.
The Mountaineers would go on to win it 82-68.
