KEOKUK – Two wanted Iowa men eluded police and were finally stopped and arrested on a range of crimes.

On January 5, 2025, at 3:59 AM, officers with the Keokuk Police Department attempted a traffic stop near South 19th Street and Timea Street. The driver eluded officers and was eventually apprehended in the 2200 block of Lincoln Avenue. James Paul Dean Burleson, age 29 of Keokuk, was arrested for Eluding – 2nd or Subsequent Offense, an Aggravated Misdemeanor, Driving While License Barred, an Aggravated Misdemeanor, three warrants for Violation of Probation as well as over 20 traffic citations. Burleson was additionally arrested on a warrant for Eluding – Speed 25 mph Over Limit – 2nd Offense, a Class C Felony and Driving while License Barred, an Aggravated Misdemeanor as well as numerous other traffic citations stemming from a pursuit on 8/14/24.

Lucas James Meyers, age 23 of Keokuk, was arrested on a warrant for Voluntary Absence From Custody out of Des Moines County.

Burleson and Meyers were both held in jail.
