On November 14, 2024, Marlene Schwickerath, 86, passed away at Riverside Senior Living surrounded by her family after fighting cancer for many months.
A funeral Mass for Marlene Schwickerath will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 18, 2024, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City with Reverend Tom Heathershaw officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Charles City.
Visitation will be from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 17, 2024, at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home where a Rosary will be prayed at 1:30 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour before the funeral Mass at the church on Monday. Marlene Marie (Elliott) Schwickerath was born on January 20, 1938, to Henry and Agnes (Tobin) Elliott. She grew up on the farm with her two sisters, Dea Ann Rosonke Hack and Vickie Schilling. Marlene enjoyed riding her horse, Dan.
Marlene graduated from the Alta Vista, Iowa Catholic High School in 1956. On September 21, 1957, she married LaVern Schwickerath and this union was blessed with three children: Kathleen Merfeld, Allan Schwickerath and Anthony Schwickerath.
Marlene enjoyed working at the telephone office as a telephone operator and as a Nurse’s Aide at the 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City for 16 years.
Marlene was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. She shared her faith with her three children and her grandchildren.
Marlene is survived by her daughter, Kathleen (Michael) Merfeld; son, Anthony Schwickerath; grandchildren: Ashley Lalan and Jaxon Schwickerath; two sisters: Dea Ann Rosonke Hack and Vickie (Art) Schilling; along with many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
Marlene was preceded in death by her husband, LaVern Schwickerath; son, Allan Schwickerath; parents, Henry and Agnes Elliott; father-in-law, Victor Schwickerath; mother-in-law, Rose Schwickerath; and many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.
