A private family graveside service will be held Saturday November 30, 2024 at St Johns Cemetery in Bancroft. Candace passed away November 9, 2024.
Candace Louise Recker was born August 24, 1943 in Bancroft IA, the daughter of Joseph “Buster” and Irma (Gilbertson) Recker. Candace graduated eighth grade at St John’s Catholic school in Bancroft. She lived in Armstrong from 1957-1959 and in Ringsted IA from 1959-1963.
She moved back to a farm outside of Armstrong until her father retired in 1982 when they moved back to Bancroft. Her father passed away in 1983. She lived with her mother until Irma’s passing in 1993. Candace then became a resident at Exceptional Opportunities in Burt IA. Candace worked at the Work Activities Center where she made hand loomed rugs. In 1996, Candace moved in with her sister and brother-in- law Karla and Bill Schumacker in Algona where she lived until the time of her death.
Candy was a kind and gentle soul. Aunt Candy was not only loved by her nieces and nephews but by all the children she came in contact with. Candy enjoyed reading to them, teaching them, coloring, playing board games, crazy 8’s, and other card games. Aunt Candy taught us all how to love, and to be loved unconditionally. Candace enjoyed word puzzles, latch hook, coloring, needle point, watching classic TV programs, and watching movies especially Elvis Presley movies. She loved to listen to every record Elvis made.
The Lord took Candace peacefully in her sleep. The care and comfort she provided us will forever be in our hearts.
Candace is survived by her sisters Irma Recker of Colorado, Jolene Dietz of Ft Dodge, Kathleen (Jason) Mau of Truman MN, Brother Ken Recker of Idaho, brother-in-law, William (Bill) Schumacker of Algona; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Edward, Dennis, William, Dean and Vern; sisters, Kathryn Horswell, Karla Schumacker; and a brother-in-law, Stan Horswell.
