OBIT: Cal Haugen

Cal Wayne Haugen, 72 of rural Leland, Iowa, passed away peacefully early Saturday morning, November, 9, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family. A Celebration of Life event will be held at the VIP Lounge in Forest City on Friday, November 15th from 4:00-7:00 P.M.

Cal Wayne Haugen, 72 of rural Leland, Iowa, passed away peacefully early Saturday morning, November, 9, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family.

Upon Cal’s wishes he will be cremated and a Celebration of Life event will be held at the VIP Lounge in Forest City on Friday, November 15th from 4:00-7:00 P.M.

Cal was born March 23, 1952, in Forest City, Iowa, the son of Gilmer and Virgil (Andersen) Haugen. He was raised on a farm in Leland, Iowa with his brother Jan and sister Kay. He graduated from Forest City High School in 1970. He worked various jobs before enlisting in the Army. Cal enlisted in the United States Army in 1972 and was honorably discharged in 1975.

After returning from his military service he attended Buena Vista University and earned his BS in Accounting. He farmed and then went to work at Winnebago until his retirement in 2017.

Cal enjoyed being outdoors, where he hunted and fished with his family and friends.

He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Preceding him in death were his parents: Gilmer and Virgil Haugen; and sister Kay Hovland.

Cal is survived by his wife, Cindy Haugen of Leland; son, Steve and wife Kendra Haugen of Forest City; son, Simon and wife Kelli Hjelm of Omaha; grandchildren, Tate Mackey (29), Kaden (22) and Lincoln (18) Hjelm and siblings, Jan and Ruth Haugen.
