CEDAR FALLS — Phil Steele released his 2024 FCS preseason awards. The Panthers landed eight on the All-Missouri Valley Football Conference (MVFC) list and one on his All-American list.
Jared Penning was the lone Panther represented on the 2024 Phil Steele FCS Preseason All-America list, being named a Second Team Offensive Lineman. Along with that, he was named to the Preseason All-MVFC First Team. This is Penning’s third straight year being named to Phil Steele’s Preseason All-MVFC Team and his first season as a Phil Steele FCS Preseason All-American. These nominations are added to his already long list of preseason accolades including MVFC preseason honors, East-West Shrine Bowl 1,000 honors, and Stats Perform Preseason All-American honors.
The duo of linebacker Tucker Langenberg and defensive lineman Cannon Butler were named to the Preseason All-MVFC Second Team while running back Tye Edwards, wide receiver Sergio Morancy, offensive lineman Tristan Roper, defensive lineman Carter Hewitt, and punter Noah Pettinger were named to the Preseason All-MVFC Third Team.
For the duo of Langenberg and Butler, this will be their second preseason honor of the season after both being named to the Preseason All-MVFC Second Team as released by the MVFC earlier this preseason. This is the first time either athlete has appeared on a Phil Steele preseason team.
The trio of Pettinger, Morancy, and Roper are appearing on a Phil Steele preseason team for the second straight year. Last season, Pettinger was named to the Phil Steele Preseason All-MVFC Second Team, Morancy was named to the Third Team, and Roper to the Fourth Team.
Both Carter Hewitt and Tye Edwards are receiving the first Phil Steele preseason award of their respective careers after being named Preseason All-MVFC Honorable Mentions as released by the MVFC earlier this summer.
The Panthers are back in action later in August as they open the season inside the UNI-Dome against the Valparaiso Beacons on August 31.
