Leland K. Meyer, 67, of Ackley, Iowa, passed away on July 20, 2024, at Creekside Living in Grundy Center, Iowa. Cremation rites have been accorded. Services will be held at Washington Reformed Church, 28182 Birch Avenue, Ackley, Iowa at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 27, 2024. Burial will be at the Washington Reformed Church Cemetery. A visitation will be held at Sietsema Funeral Home in Ackley from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, July 26, 2024. Funeral arrangements are under the guidance of the Sietsema Funeral Home in Ackley.
Leland was born in Waterloo, Iowa, on June 27, 1957, to LeRoy and Lois (Lupkes) Meyer. He lived his first years on a farm north of Ackley, and then moved with his family to the Meyer home place north of Austinville. He attended Aplington Community Schools, graduating in 1976. Leland was a member of the Washington Reformed Church, where he faithfully attended his whole life. He was an usher and cemetery caretaker.
As a kid, Leland enjoyed riding his pony, Lightning. He was a 4-H member, and like most farm kids, he had his share of chores to do. As an adult, Leland was a faithful walker and could be seen most days on his walking route in Ackley.
Leland was a hard worker who was meticulous in how he wanted things done. He worked for many years for Stokely’s (a.k.a. The Canning Factory, and later, Chiquita) in Ackley. When that business closed, he worked in Grundy Center, and eventually started his own business, Meyer’s Lawn Mowing and More. He mowed, dethatched, and removed snow in the Ackley area until his illness forced him to retire, much to the disappointment of his many customers.
Leland will be missed by his brother and sisters: Laureen (Rick) Guemmer, Clinton, IA; Linda (Bob) Nielsen, Akron, IA; Leon Meyer, Aplington, IA; LaVonne (Scott) Witte, Rock Valley, IA; and his sister-in-law, Doreen Meyer, Aplington, IA.
He is also survived by his 12 nieces and nephews: Emily (Casey) Turner, Luke (Melea) Nielsen, Erin (Nick) Mathistad, Matt (Chelsie) Meyer, Andrew (Nicole) Meyer, Garret (Sammi) Meyer, John (Amanda) Meyer, Adam (Meghan) Meyer, Mike (Nessa) Meyer, Seth Witte, Sara (Luke) Francois, and Erica (Justin) Techen; as well as his step-mother Marlene Meyer and stepbrother Steven Ackerman.
Also surviving him are his 27 great nieces and nephews; his good friends, Tim Eichmeier, Korey Meinders, Kevin Klooster and his morning coffee friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, LeRoy and Lois Meyer; an infant brother, Leon Keith Meyer; his brother Lyle Meyer; his paternal grandparents, Albert and Lillian Meyer, and his maternal grandparents, John and Grace Lupkes.
