Mary K. (McDonough) Jennings, 80, of Hanlontown, originally from Mason City, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, July 20, 2024 at home with family, after a year long battle with breast cancer.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 24, from 4:00 to 6:30pm at Bride Colonial Chapel, 110 East Spring Street, Manly, IA. There will be a short service following the visitation. A graveside service will be held 10:30am Thursday, July 25, 2024 at Brush Point Cemetery in Hanlontown.
Memorials should be directed to Steven Jennings, PO Box 423, Manly, IA 50456. Memorial funds will be directed to Sacred Heart Cemetery in Rockwell, Iowa and Brush Point Cemetery in Hanlontown, Iowa.
Mary was born December 23, 1943 to Iva Doran and Joseph McDonough in Mason City, Iowa. Mary graduated from St. Joseph Catholic School in 1961. She married Steven Jennings of Hanlontown on April 21, 1968 at Holy Family Church.
Mary began her working career at Clifton’s Grocery store during high school and after worked at the Clear Lake Bakery. Once married, while she raised her four daughters, she also painted, wallpapered and cleaned many houses in the area. And if you knew Mary K., you knew her time was spent the way she wanted; drinking a Coke, shopping for plants, watching the kids play “ball”, driving through cemeteries, playing cards, beating the grandkids at Old Maid and playing with her dead people (genealogy).
She is preceded in death by her father Joseph McDonough, her mother Iva Doran, her brother Michael McDonough and two infant daughters, Shannon Marie and Ann Marie Jennings.
She is survived by husband Steven of 56 years, Heather (Noelle Stoyles) Jennings, Holli Jennings, Heidi (Chad) Hanson, Hilleri (Brandon) Steinbrecher, seven grandchildren: Ally (Riley) Flint, Ashlyn Hanson, Avery Hanson, Austin Hanson, Baileigh Carlsen, Berkli Steinbrecher and Brinley Steinbrecher.
