OBIT: Nadene Mavis Hanson

Nadene Mavis Hanson, 93, of Mason City, Iowa, passed away surrounded by loved ones on Sunday May 26, 2024 at Good Shepherd Health Care Center. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 AM Friday May 31, 2024 at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel.

Nadene Mavis Hanson, 93, of Mason City, Iowa, passed away surrounded by loved ones on Sunday May 26, 2024 at Good Shepherd Health Care Center.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 AM Friday May 31, 2024 at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd St NE Mason City, Iowa. Burial will be held in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, Iowa.

Visitation will begin one hour prior to the celebration from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association,
P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011.

Nadene was born on February 21, 1931, the youngest child of Walter and Agnes (Johnson) Anderson of Lake Norden, South Dakota. She graduated High School from Hamlin County South Dakota. In September of 1956 Nadene married Alwood Hanson. They started their married life on a farm in Vienna. After having their first son, the family moved to Mason City, Iowa. Together Nadene and Alwood raised five children. After Nadene’s youngest was school age she began working for Sears and then Target.

Nadene was often found outside whether it be gardening, yardwork, and or playing with the grandchildren. She also enjoyed crafting, painting, doing puzzles and completing word searches. Above everything she loved spending time with her family, visiting and making them delicious meals.

Those left to cherish memories of Nadene are her children, Rodney Hanson of Humboldt, IA, Cynthia Hanson of Mason City, IA, Kevin (Sandy) Hanson of Buffalo, MN, Tim (Mindy) Hanson of Mason City, IA; grandchildren, Josh Hanson, Nicole (Joey) Schueler, Spencer (Jaque) Hanson, and Nora Lynn Mavis Hanson; multiple great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Nadene is preceded in death by her husband, Alwood Hanson; son, Marlin Hanson; parents, Walter and Agnes Anderson; parents in-law, Herman and Nora Hanson; and her siblings, Virgil, Ruby, Glen “Bud”, and Eldon.
