OBIT: Robert D. Johnson

On March 19, 1969, Bob was inducted into the US Army. He served in Vietnam and received his Honorable Discharge on February 22, 1971.

Visitation will be held from 4:00PM – 7:00PM, Thursday, May 23, 2024, at the Bierman, Benson & Langehough Funeral Home in Northfield. Visitation will be held from 4:00PM – 6:00PM, Sunday, June 2, 2024, at Oakcrest Funeral Services in Buffalo Center, Iowa. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Monday, June 3, 2024, at the United Methodist Church in Buffalo Center with visitation one hour prior. Military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post #21. A reception will follow the service. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery, Buffalo Center.

Robert D. Johnson, age 74, of Northfield, Minnesota, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Sunday morning, May 19, 2024.

Robert Duane Johnson was born June 13, 1949, in Blue Earth, Minnesota, to Stanley E. and Gladys (Sandness) Johnson. He was raised in Frost and graduated from Frost High School in 1967. On March 19, 1969, Bob was inducted into the US Army. He served in Vietnam and received his Honorable Discharge on February 22, 1971. He returned to the Frost area and worked for Bartel Construction.

On August 28, 1982, Bob married Jolene Kay Dearing at the United Lutheran Church in Frost. After marriage they made their home in Rake and Bob worked as a carpenter. In 1986, they moved to Northfield. Over the years Bob worked for Northfield Construction and Steve Schmidt Construction. Bob retired in 2018, although he continued to work sparingly.

Bob was a life member of the Northfield VFW. He was a hardworking, loving, caring man with a one-of-a-kind personality. Besides being a devoted father, he loved spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, and meeting with friends for coffee.

Survivors include his sons Scott (Joy) of Northfield, and Chad (Katie) of Lakeville; 6 grandchildren Tyler (Maggie) Johnson, Aaron (Bryanna) Jencson, Brian Kelly, Austyn Wunderlich, Abraham Wunderlich, Jack Johnson; one great-grandson Noah Jencson; 3 sisters Virginia Johnson of Blue Earth, Betty Trytten (Tom Miller) of Blue Earth, Carol (Mark) Winter of Rake, Iowa; his brother-in-law Roland “Butch” Erichsrud of Blue Earth; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Jolene in 2009, his sister Sharon Erichsrud and his parents.
