DES MOINES – Police in Iowa’s capitol city nabbed a long-sought suspect with a long rap sheet whom they claim stars in a video in which he brutally beats a dog.

The Des Moines Police Department announced they made an arrest in a 2022 animal abuse investigation. At approximately 5:23 AM on March 8, 2024, Des Moines Police Department 1st Watch patrol officers were called to investigate a report of an assault that had just occurred at a residence in the 5900 block of SE 19th Street. During the course of that investigation, officers encountered 44-year-old Des Moines resident Jermaine Hargrove (pictured at top), wanted on a warrant for animal abuse, as well as a felony parole violation warrant. Hargrove was arrested without incident.
The caller making the initial assault complaint call declined to file a police report for the original assault call.

Des Moines Police Department investigators had been seeking Hargrove since August 2022 after a video was discovered that contained images of a dog being violently abused.

Hargrove remains held at the Polk County Jail. His rap sheet goes back years, containing drug offenses and violent crimes.
