NIACC’s Katy Olive earns ICCAC player of week award

MASON CITY – For the second time this season, NIACC sophomore shortstop Katy Olive has been selected as the ICCAC Division Ii softball player of the week.

Olive won the league’s weekly award for the week of March 25-31. She also won the award for the week of March 25-31.

It is the fourth time this season that the Trojans have been awarded the league’s weekly honor.
During the week of March 25-31, Olive was 8 for 12, including six home runs, with nine RBIs, eight runs scored and four stolen bases as the Trojans went 3-1 with a split with No. 10 Kirkwood and a sweep of Hawkeye CC.

Olive is batting .489 with 16 home runs, 38 RBIs and 39 stolen bases. The 16 home runs rank fourth in NJCAA Division II and the 39 stolen bases lead NJCAA Division II.

The 16 home runs also is tied for first on NIACC’s all-time single-season list. Olive is NIACC’s career home run leader with 30.

NIACC (14-12 overall, 3-1 in ICCAC) returns to action Wednesday in an ICCAC doubleheader against Ellsworth (13-13, 3-1) at Norwalk starting at noon. The twinbill will be played at Fareway Fields at the Gregg Young Sports Complex.
