C.A. “Deano” Dean Jr., 79, of Clear Lake died unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center in Mason City.

A Celebration of Life will be held 2:00pm Friday, February 23, 2024 at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 310 1st Ave North, Clear Lake, IA 50428. He will be laid to rest at Clear Lake Cemetery beside his late wife, Christine.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services on Friday.

Deano was born October 25, 1944 in Bangor, Maine to Carold A. Sr. and Shirley G. Dean. Growing up in Maine, Deano attended school in Bangor and graduated in 1963 from South Portland High School. Following graduation, he enlisted into the United States Air Force, serving in Greenland and Alaska for seven years before being honorably discharged as a Sergeant in 1971. Deano spent the next 20 years in Anchorage, AK, working for Anchorage Sand and Gravel. He welcomed two sons, Mark and James with his first wife Susan. Deano worked in the aggregate industry for most of his professional life. Alter leaving Anchorage, he moved to Vadnais Heights, MN. Deano then opened an auto parts store in Osseo, MN with his sons. After deciding to move on from the auto parts industry, he relocated to Clear Lake, IA in 1993. Deano went back to the aggregate industry and oversaw the rock quarry operations for BMC in Fertile until his retirement in 2021.

On December 23, 2004, he married the love of his life, Christine “Chris” M. Dean in Anchorage, AK. The two were inseparable. With Chris by his side, the couple enjoyed golfing and traveling the world. But they felt most at home in Clear Lake.

Deano’s passions were his family, golf, muscle cars and travel. He and Chris were loyal members of the Mason City Country Club over the years. Deano and Chris made many great friendships through the golf community.

Deano also really enjoyed cooking and entertaining friends and family at “Chubby’s Bar and Grill”, which was the nickname for his home. But his zest for life didn’t stop at golf. He loved the Clear Lake/Mason City communities and the dear friendships that developed over the years.

Although we won’t get another, “Chubby’s Bar and Grill, how can I help ya?” when Deano picks up the phone, his presence will linger in the gentle swish of a perfect putt, in the savory aroma of a home-cooked meal and the soft breeze of Clear Lake. He will not soon be forgotten.

Those surviving are his sons, Mark and wife Brigette Dean of Anchorage, AK and James Dean of Fort Collins, CO; grandchildren, Tristan Anderson, Morgan Dean, Jarrett and wife Justice Dean, Cooper, Keira and Jaden Dean; great-grandchildren, Dahlia Anderson and Jhacari and Jaheim Dean; sister, Claire Beamis of Maine; as well as extended family members and countless friends.

Preceding him in death are his beloved wife, Christine; his parents; and nephew, Lee Beamis.
