IOWA CITY – No. 4 Iowa (23-3, 12-2) defeated Michigan (16-10, 7-7), 106-89, inside a sold-out Carver-Hawkeye Arena on Thursday afternoon. Caitlin Clark scored 49 points.
National Player of the Year candidate, Caitlin Clark, became the NCAA’s women’s basketball all-time scoring leader, surpassing Washington’s Kelsey Plum. Clark registered a program-high 49 points, 13 assists, and five rebounds. She tied her career-best with nine made 3-point field goals.
In back-to-back home games, an Iowa women’s basketball player recorded Carver-Hawkeye Arena scoring records.
In the first quarter, Clark broke the NCAA’s all-time scoring record with a logo 3-point basket. She also poured in the second-most points by an Iowa women’s basketball player in a single quarter with 23. (8-10 FG, 5-7 3FG)
Clark accomplished the scoring record feat in only 126 career games.
It was the 17th 40-point outburst in program history.
It was the most points scored in a single game by an Iowa women’s basketball player.
She is the fourth different Hawkeye in school history to record 40 or more in a single game.
She has 18 career games with 30+ points and 10+ assists, no one in college women’s basketball in past 25 seasons has more than two such games.
Since 2009, no player has recorded more games of 35+ points, 5+ assists, and 5+ rebounds. She has done it 18 times.
Tonight’s sellout extends Iowa’s streak to 16 consecutive home games at capacity.
Iowa is 8-4 all-time when Clark records 40 or more points.
Hannah Stuelke notched her 16th game of the season in double figures.
Stuelke has netted 10+ points in 27 career games.
Kate Martin has registered double figures in 18 of the last 22 contests.
Martin has netted 20+ points in three games this season and for the first time in back-to-back games in her career.
It was her 58th career double-double which is good for fifth on the Big Ten’s all-time list.
Clark is the only player in the country with 800+ points, 175+ assists, and 150+ rebounds this season.
Clark has 60 career games with 25+ points, 5+ assists, and 5+ rebounds.
Clark has recorded 10 or more assists in five straight games which is the longest streak nationally.
Furthermore, Clark has recorded 25+ points, 5+ assists, and 5+ rebounds in 18 out of the last 20 contests.
Iowa has officially broken an attendance record or sold-out away from Carver-Hawkeye Arena in 30-of-32 games this season.
It was Clark’s 53rd career game with 30+ points in her career, the most in men’s or women’s college basketball history over the last 25 seasons.
Clark has scored 30+ points in 16 games this season.
Clark has scored 20+ points in 111-of-126 career games which is the most in program history.
