Women’s College Basketball: Panthers close three-game home stand with a matchup against Bradley

CEDAR FALLS – UNI women’s basketball plays host to the Bradley Braves in the third straight home matchup for the Panthers. The last time these teams met, UNI recorded its sixth 100+-point game in program history with a 105-59 victory in Peoria, Illinois. The Panthers hold the series record over the Braves after winning their 50th game over Bradley in the last meeting.

UNI is coming off a 74-47 victory over Illinois State. In that matchup, Grace Boffeli recorded her fifth double-double of the season and the 29th of her career with 17 points and 13 rebounds against the Redbirds. Maya McDermott and Cailyn Morgan were the other two Panthers in double figures for the matchup with 12 and 11 points respectively.

Forward Grace Boffeli recorded 13 rebounds in the game against the Redbirds. Her 764 passed Deb Drenth (1979-83) for the no. 5 spot on the all-time charts. She is now just 24 short of Tami Schebler’s (1980-84) no. 4 spot with 788 rebounds.

Maya McDermott leads both the conference and the nation in free throw percentage. Her 95.8% (46-for-48) from the stripe has seen all 24 free throws go down inside the McLeod Center and all 25 in conference play. She also leads the conference with 3.15 assists per turnover. That mark is the fifth-best in the nation.

As a team, UNI leads the conference with a league-low 12.3 turnovers per game. That mark is the 13th-best in the nation. The Panthers recorded their 500th straight matchup with a three-pointer. In the game against the Redbirds, UNI knocked down nine threes to continue a streak that has been active since December 2008.

As a program, the Panther women’s basketball team is seven conference wins away from 500. Tanya Warren recorded her 200th career MVC win against the Redbirds. She is now just two Valley victories shy of breaking the conference’s all-time, league wins record set by Cheryl Burnett (Missouri State 1988-02) at 201.

Bradley is coming off a 71-60 loss to Drake on Thursday. In that matchup, three Braves recorded double-figures with Halli Poock, Isis Fitch, and Nika Dorsey recording 17, 12, and 10 points respectively. Fitch led the Braves with eight rebounds.

Junior guard/forward Kaylen Nelson leads the Braves offense with 15.6 points per game. Freshman Halli Poock is the other Brave averaging in double figures, recording 13.5 points per game. Poock is currently ranked first in the MVC with 48 three-pointers. She is second in the Valley with 2.18 threes per game and fourth in the conference with a 37.2% three-point percentage.
