Iowa’s Caitlin Clark is again named Big Ten Player of the Week

IOWA CITY — University of Iowa National Player of the Year candidate, Caitlin Clark, earned Big Ten Player of the Week honors the conference office announced on Monday. She has garnered weekly honors a conference-best eight times this season.

This marks Clark’s 26th weekly award from the conference, which is the most in Big Ten conference history eclipsing former Hawkeye, Megan Gustafson. (23)

Clark led the Hawkeyes to a pair of road wins at Northwestern and at Maryland. Iowa snapped its seven-game losing streak at the Xfinity Center on Saturday with a, 93-85 victory against the Terps. Iowa last started 21-2 in the 1995-96 season and is 7-1 against AP Top 25 and teams receiving votes this season.

In a primetime matchup with the Maryland, Clark recorded 38 points, a season-high 12 assists, and six rebounds. She has 16 career games with 30+ points and 10+ assists, no one in college women’s basketball in past 25 seasons has more than two such games. Five of those have come against ranked teams.

PLAYER NOTES
– It was her 55th career double-double against the Terps, she is tied for fifth on the Big Ten’s all-time list. She leads all Big Ten active players in career double-doubles.

– Registered her 17th career game with 35+ points, 5+ assists, and 5+ rebounds which is the most in college women’s basketball since 2009.
– Clark has scored 25+ points, 5+ assists, and 5+ rebounds in 11 out of the last 12 games.
– The All-American is the first Division-I player in men’s or women’s college basketball to record 3,300+ points, 950+ assists, and 850+ rebounds in a career.
– Is second on the NCAA’s all-time scoring list. She is 66 points shy of Kelsey Plum’s title.
– Is the all-time leader in 30+ point performances in men’s and women’s college basketball over the last 25 seasons. (51)

UP NEXT
The second-ranked Hawkeyes will host Penn State on Feb. 8. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. (CT) inside a sold-out Carver-Hawkeye Arena. The game will broadcast on BTN and the Hawkeye Radio Network.
