Delbert was born March 25, 1937 in Des Moines. He was raised in northern Iowa and graduated from Rockwell High School.

He was united in marriage to Annetta Boster on June 26, 1955 and they were blessed with four children, David, Scott, James, and Tammy. Together they shared 30 years of marriage before Annetta’s passing in 1985.

Delbert married Dorothy (Norris) Piper on August 16, 1986 and lovingly welcomed her children into his family as well. They spent the next 34 years together, creating cherished memories, until Dorothy’s passing on March 28, 2020.

Delbert will be remembered as a hard worker, with a quick wit (a twinkle in his eye) and a kindness for others. For many years he farmed, alongside working at Armour Meats, which he did for nearly 20 years. He loved to spend free time fishing, enjoying nature and wildlife. He was a frequent diner of his and Dorothy’s favorite restaurants, LD’s Filling Station, Northwestern Steakhouse, Hardees, and Awe’z Sandwich Shop.

He was a longtime member of the Moose Lodge, TOPS/KOPS, and Hanford Community Church.

Those grateful in sharing in his life include his children, David (Carol) Witt, Scott (Barb) Witt, James Witt, and Tammy Witt Mason; Dorothy’s children, Richard ‘Chip’ (Peggy) Piper, Devin (Jaime) Piper, Dodie (Alan) Wilkins, Patrick (Tracy) Piper, Jenni (Mark) Comito, and Matthew (Janette) Piper; grandchildren, Ryan, Erin (Glenn), Shawn (Brigitte), Nicole (Stewart), Kyle, MeganRose, Alyssa, Brittany, Jacob, Lucas, Dylan, Holly, Nick, Michael (Lindsay), Nichol (Jean), Jessica, Cassie (Timothy), Katrina (John), Alex, Brian (Lisa), Tina (Duane), and Jesse (Tara); many beloved great grandchildren; sisters in law, Mary Laursen and Lilah Ness; as well as extended family and many friends.

He is preceded in death by his wives, Annetta Witt and Dorothy (Piper) Witt; granddaughter, Allie; brothers, Charles Ness, Frank Laursen, and Jerry Valley; and sisters, Maribelle Olsen, Violet Swanson, Alice Kirby, and Suzanne Leverson.
