RURAL CERRO GORDO COUNTY – Gunshots rang out in the dead of the cold night near Clear Lake and a frosty deer met its demise as furious neighbors gave chase, only to see the killer gleefully claim his freedom.
On November 17, 2023, at 10:41 PM, Cerro Gordo sheriff’s deputies responded to 310th Street and Apple Avenue reference a possible deer poaching. The investigation revealed a buck white tail deer was shot illegally. Neighbors heard the shot and pursued the poacher(s) but were unable to stop them.
The sheriff’s department is assisting Iowa DNR in the investigation.
